A very common problem amongst people who run stay fit is knee pain. Knee pain can be an extremely frustrating problem because there are so many different causes it is almost impossible to diagnose yourself. In this article I’ll be talking about a few of the things that you need to remember if you have knee pain whether you are a runner or not.

First of all if you start to get knee pain at any point during a run you should always stop immediately. If you don’t, then you are definitely more risk of causing further damage to your knees. Make sure that you rest until the pain goes away and don’t start running again until you’re sure you feel comfortable doing so.

If you’ve rested for a couple of weeks and still find that you are in knee pain then it is definitely time to see a doctor. The sooner you see a doctor the better, because they will be able to tell you whether your knee pain is caused by something obvious or whether you need to go and see a specialist. It can be tempting to carry on running is the knee pain isn’t too bad, but this could only make the problem worse.

On the Internet you will find lots of different websites that describe different knee injury that you get while running so again it can be tempting to try and use the advice of the websites to fix the problem yourself. However, a lot of the advice is to stretch certain muscles and strengthen other muscles. While this may work in some cases, if you don’t have exactly the same problem this can actually make the problem worse. For this reason it’s always a good idea to consult physiotherapist to make sure you are strengthening the right muscles are are doing the right exercises for your knee pain.
